The moss hung like the sails on a ghostly pirate ship. Standing like silent sentinels, the trees warned those passing through.

This ancient, old growth big leaf maple tree gives life to new trees, shares its resources with neighbors through the underground wood wide web and will one day fall and become a nurse log, giving it's flesh to allow new trees to grow.

There's something that draws me to the wooden bridges in Olympic National Park and on the Olympic Peninsula. There's this raw beauty to something so utilitarian and functional in the remote wilderness that is slowly being returned to nature.

$Driving through Moran State Park, you pass the beautiful and tranquil Lake Cascade. It\'s surrounded by hills on all sides, protected from the wind. We saw a family of geese hanging out along the side of the road.$

$A pair of criss-crossing sevengill sharks (Notorynchus cepedianus) at La Jolla Cove.Sevengills make periodic appearances off Pt Loma and La Jolla in the springtime. There is speculation it is to mate or give birth, but we don\'t know yet. There is a citizen science project aimed at understanding which sharks return and when they return - http://sevengillsharksightings.org/$

$Cascade Creek crosses under the entrance bridge at the southern end of Moran State Park on Orcas Island, WA. CrtrGrl and I absolutely loved the old moss covered bridges in Moran State Park. Add a stream and ferns, and I\'m in heaven.$
