Join Me on the Olympic Peninsula

I’m drawn to the dark forest, to the mystery and magic of the fairies and sprites that certainly frolic in the misty moonlight. I’m drawn to the moss and ferns that share the forest with ancient giants in the few remaining old growth rainforests. That’s why I was drawn to the Olympic Peninsula in WA state, making my home here with Carolita, and hoping to explore it until the end of my days.

To follow a narrow path, back through time, to the way the world used to be…

Territories of the chalá·at (Hoh), kʷoʔlí·yot’ (Quileute), qʷidiččaʔa·tx̌ (Makah), nəxʷsƛ̕áy̕əm̕ (Klallam), & t͡ʃə́mqəm (Chemakum) peoples

A break in the clouds, sun beams lance through the branches, making the mist and fog glow.

A small clearing in the forest canopy in mid-summer. The rich and dark maple smell of downed wood baking in the sun.

A light rain falls on the salal and moss covered understory, making every possible shade of green glow and shimmer.

Crossing a stream on a backcountry bridge, made of rough hewn cedar. Just slippery enough to be sporty, but also sturdy enough to survive winter after winter.

Tracing the huge trunk of an old growth douglas fir tree into the upper canopy, witnessing the chaotic branching of the epicormic crown, with some branches as big as a whole tree

Coming around a corner in the trail, anticipating the next magical forest scene. Just explore a little farther!
